Acne
Acne, a chronic condition that can leave life-long scars, is characterized by “crater-like” indentations in the skin. Although proper treatment can minimize scarring, there are several dermatological procedures that can help reduce the appearance of existing flaws. These procedures include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing.
Microdermabrasion may be used to minimize small scars, minor skin surface irregularities, surgical scars and acne scars. Microdermabrasion uses exfoliation to remove the top layers of skin, revealing healthier skin cells and a smoother appearance.
Chemical peels are used to minimize sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment and superficial scars. By applying select chemicals to the skin, the top layer is removed, revealing a fresh, smooth new layer.
Laser skin resurfacing, or laser peel, removes damaged and flawed skin. It is particularly effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars. When imperfections are deeply embedded in the skin, more than one treatment may be necessary.
