Breast augmentation is a procedure that adjusts the size and projection of a woman’s breasts by surgically inserting breast implants. The augmentation, referred to as mammaplasty, may be considered appropriate for several reasons. Common goals associated with this procedure include enlarging naturally small breasts, most often due to heredity, or to achieve better symmetry in moderately disproportionate shapes and unequal sizes. The procedure can correct decreased breast volume after pregnancy, breast-feeding and weight loss. It can also be used to restore a breast that was lost due to an injury or mastectomy.
