Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure that removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. Breast reduction may also involve reducing the size of the areola.
In addition to the psychological impact of very large breasts, the extra weight can also lead to medical problems, including back pain, skin irritation and breathing problems. Very large breasts may also limit physical activity. It can be very difficult to find bras and clothing to fit, and bra straps may leave indentations in the skin.
In most cases, a breast reduction is not performed until the breasts are fully developed. However, the procedure can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.
