Spotlight on LIPSG Nurses – Thank you for all you do!
Teresa Barroca, RN, MSN, is the Director of Nursing at Long Island Plastic Surgical Group. While it is unique for a medical practice to have a Director of Nursing, LIPSG physicians openly support the professional development of nursing. Here at the practice, it is Teresa’s role to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to patients and to make sure all standards are upheld. In addition, LIPSG has two Certified Plastic Surgical Nurses (CPSNs) on staff, Janet Misuraca, BSN RN CPSN, and Debbie Greenberg, BSN, RN, CPSN, a certification that only 285 people in the country currently hold.
The nurses at LIPSG are incredibly involved with The American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses (ASPSN) and regularly contribute to the education of nurses through this foundation. ASPSN is an international nursing specialty organization committed to the enhancement of quality nursing care delivered to the patients undergoing plastic and reconstructive surgery. Incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1975, ASPSN has a growing membership of approximately 1,000 plastic and reconstructive surgical nurses. The organization supports and encourages the collaborative relationship between nurses engaged in the areas of clinical practice, education, administration, and research. LIPSG nurses are often invited to be expert speakers at annual ASPSN conventions. Past presentation topics include patient safety and maximizing the patient experience. Teresa was the co-chair for the 2014 Chicago meeting, and will once again co-chair the upcoming 2015 Boston meeting. In addition, Janet Misuraca, BSN RN CPSN, LIPSG’s Office Nurse Manager, is the president of the Long Island chapter of ASPSN.
“All of our nurses are an integral part of the doctor’s relationship with patients”, according to Teresa. “Patients know our nurses by name, and often call the office to speak directly with them.” In fact, longevity is common in the nursing department, as multiple nurses have been on staff upwards of 10 years.
Along with Teresa, Debbie Rapuano, RN is a Certified AAAASF inspector, which is a certified body ensuring the highest quality of standards in the Operation Room. The entire nursing department at LIPSG is unwaveringly dedicated to ensuring patients receive the best possible care during their time with us.
