40 guests gathered at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Lukash earlier this month, including LIPSG physicians, staff, and nurses. The American Physicians and Friends For Medicine in Israel (APF) is an organization committed to advancing the state of medical education, research and care in Israel by assisting in the training of young Israeli physicians and healthcare professionals.

The guest speaker was Dr. Alex Zendel, a surgeon on an APF fellowship in transplant surgery at Montefiore Medical Center who’ll be starting a clinical fellowship training at Mount Sinai Medical Center later this year. Dr. Zendel was a medical field officer and a commander of an Israel Defense Force (IDF) surgical tactical team. Three years ago, he volunteered at the emergency field hospital that the IDF set up in Nepal to help victims of the catastrophic earthquake, which he’ll be talking about.

Also in attendance were Israeli senior nurses who were in New York for a two-week observation course at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital (NYPQ) that focuses on Emergency Medicine for Advanced Practice Practitioners.
