While your reasons for wanting to undergo breast augmentation are unique and personal, you are not alone. Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States and here at LIPSG, our surgeons have performed thousands of breast augmentation procedures during our long practice history. In addition to acquiring the technical experience required to achieve a beautiful result, our doctors have gained valuable insight consulting with patients over the years and understand how a woman’s feelings about her breasts can affect both her appearance and her feelings of femininity. While all women electing to undergo breast augmentation share dissatisfaction with their breasts, the reasons stem from a variety of conditions including breast size, asymmetry, shape and droopiness.
Breast augmentation can help women achieve a fuller, more symmetrical bustline with larger breasts and a more contoured aesthetic. Breast implants can give you a more youthful, sensual appearance, in addition to making the bustline more proportionate to your overall body frame. They can also compensate for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or surgery, correct a congenital breast defect, and be used in breast reconstruction procedures in order to rebuild the breast after mastectomy or injury. Our experienced LIPSG breast augmentation surgeons have attended some of the most prestigious and respected medical institutions in the world, and are committed to giving you a new aesthetic with breasts that both look and feel natural. At the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, you will be treated by a team of professionals who care about you and the successful attainment of your goals.

Breast augmentation with implants can help you recontour and add volume to the bustline, making your breasts more proportionate with your body frame and giving you natural-looking, beautiful results. Breast implants, both saline and silicone, have proven to be a safe and effective cosmetic enhancement option that provides women with breasts that are fuller and more youthful in appearance.
Every woman is unique. That’s why we customize each of our breast augmentation procedures for each individual to ensure the best possible outcome and the safest, procedure possible. When you meet with your LIPSG plastic surgeon, you will discuss a variety of issues regarding breast implants, including types, shapes, and sizes, as well as what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure. Your doctor will address all of your concerns and, together, you will decide what’s best to achieve your goals.
This procedure can also be combined with a breast lift to give the breasts a smoother, more “perky” aesthetic.
Silicone implants are FDA-approved for use in breast augmentation patients who are over the age of 22. Composed of a silicone outer shell and filled with a thick, silicone gel, this type of implant is known for its natural appearance and feel. There is a lesser risk of rippling with silicone implants, and they are often more advantageous for women who are exceptionally thin or are undergoing breast reconstruction.
Saline breast implants are approved by the FDA for use in women over 18. Made of a silicone outer shell, saline implants are filled with a saltwater solution that is easily absorbed by the body in cases of implant rupture. Saline breast implants are filled after placement, making it possible for your surgeon to make a smaller incision which results in less visible scarring.
Your plastic surgeon here at LIPSG will describe the benefits of each type of breast implant to you, in detail, at your initial breast augmentation consultation. As part of this initial meeting, you will also be given the opportunity to see what the likely outcome may be before you even set foot inside the operating room. With Vectra 3-D imaging, our plastic surgeon can show you a computer-generated image of how you may look after surgery. The image can also be manipulated to reflect different sizes and shapes of implants for comparison. The Vectra system offers you a chance to get a general idea of the possible results after breast augmentation surgery.

Breast Augmentation Procedure
Breast implants can be placed beneath the chest muscle or directly beneath the breast tissue. Your LIPSG plastic surgeon will discuss which option may be the best for you.
There are a variety of techniques our plastic surgeons can use to perform breast augmentation. Implants can be placed via incisions made in the:
- Armpit (Transaxillary)
- Underside of the breast where it meets the chest (Inframammary)
- Areola area surrounding the dark-pigmented skin around the nipple (Periareolar)
Saline implants can be placed through a new and innovative technique called TUBA, or transumbilical breast augmentation. This technique places saline implants endoscopically through an incision in the navel, which results in a small, hidden scar. In TUBA procedures, breast implants can only be placed directly beneath the breast tissue.
Once the incision has been made, the breast tissue is lifted to form a pocket to hold the implant. The implant is placed and the incisions are closed.
Breast augmentation surgery typically takes two hours or less to complete and is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with a sedative. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Breast augmentation procedures can be performed at our new, technologically advanced operating rooms located at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group’s Garden City facility. The new operatories are accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF), a distinction that signifies surgical environments operating under the highest standard of care.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Patients can expect some pain and discomfort after breast augmentation surgery, but this can be managed with medication. Some bruising, swelling, and numb sensation will likely affect the breasts and nipples within the first few weeks following the procedure. Stitches are typically removed within the first 10 days after surgery. Patients can usually get back to their normal routines within a few days to a week.
Mammograms should be continued after breast augmentation surgery. A special mammogram will need to be used in order to see around the implants and deliver accurate results.
Our LIPSG plastic surgeon will discuss further details of recovery in your particular case and give you information on how long you can expect the healing process to last.
