Hand Rejuvenation
Our hands are one of the first parts of the body to show the signs of age. Brown spots, loss of fat, and veins are common signs that result from both environmental factors and the aging process. A complete hand rejuvenation treatment, which consists of laser treatments and injectable treatments, can turn back the hands of time and restore your hands to a more youthful appearance. The first step in Hand Rejuvenation is a laser treatment to revitalize the skin using Intensive Pulsed Light (IPL) or Fraxel re:store™ treatments. IPL treatment can correct a variety of imperfections such as freckles, port wine stains, sunspots, age spots, birthmarks, rosacea and spider veins. Light energy is delivered to the skin in pulses through a computer-controlled hand piece. There is no downtime associated with IPL treatments. Fraxel re:store™ technology effectively targets the skin surface for smoother, fresher looking skin with less downtime than other comparable ablative treatments. There is a minimal “social downtime” of 3-5 days after undergoing a Fraxel treatment.
The next steps in Hand Rejuvenation treatment are injectable fillers. The purposes of the fillers are to plump up the skin surrounding the bony and veiny areas to create a more youthful looking hand. The types of fillers most commonly used for hand rejuvenation are Radiesse® and Sculptra® Aesthetic. Radiesse® is composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, made from the same minerals found in human bones and therefore carries little risk of allergic reaction. This injectable filler provides immediate results and typically lasts for 12-24 months. Sculptra® Aesthetic stimulates your own body to create new collagen, a protein responsible for healthy skin and tissue. There is no allergy test required for this particular injectable because it is made up of synthetic, bio compatible material that consists of poly-L-lactic acid. Unlike Radiesse®, results from Sculptra® Aesthetic appear gradually, not immediately. In order to achieve optimal results using this injectable filler, a patient may have to undergo three to four treatment sessions. Results from Sculptra® Aesthetic are long lasting and may last up to three years.
