The Third Annual Breast Cancer Summit took place on Monday, September 30th and attracted 500 attendees, including doctors and staff representing 20 New York Hospitals, as well as breast cancer survivors, and members of 20+ breast cancer advocacy groups. The event was held at Coral House in Baldwin.

Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. According to Dr. Roger Simpson, President of Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, the founding organization of the Long Island Breast Cancer Summit, “We are honored to present actress Cynthia Nixon with a lifetime advocacy award as she shares her personal battle with breast cancer to what has become one of the largest gatherings of advocacy groups in New York State. It is important for an event such as this to be held locally, given that Long Island has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the nation.”

Rates of breast cancer on Long Island are among the highest in the state of New York, with an average annual incidence of 116.9 per 100,000 women (compared to the statewide average of 104.1 per 100,000 women). There are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.

There was an amazing line-up of speakers and panelists who were passionate and engaged the audience.

The Breast Cancer Summit is sponsored as a public service by Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, PC. It is an annual forum connecting those who support breast cancer awareness, education, advanced medical practices, procedures, and technologies. The Breast Cancer Summit brings together industry, hospital, and clinical leaders to share how they are navigating through the ever-changing environment in healthcare and how they are pioneering the path to integrated approaches in breast cancer.
