Since 2015, New York Plastic Surgical Group has been a proud partner of ReSurge International. Through partnership with ReSurge, our highly skilled surgeons travel to areas that are lacking in basic medical care or trained specialists. Once there, they can provide surgical care to restore function for patients who have been injured or born with defects that limit their mobility, basic capacity, or ability to work.
We are excited to resume missions with ReSurge for the first time since before the start of the pandemic. Representing NYPS Group on a current mission to Ibarra, Ecuador, is board-certified plastic surgeon and partner Dr. Thomas Davenport and Dr. Nikhil Agrawal. They are joined by long-time ReSurge outreach partner, Dr. Jorge Palacios, along with Dr. Lorena Escudero, Dr. Karen Gaibor, and Dora Rusin-Gomez, the Director of Volunteer Services & Medical Supplies.
The team started off this mission trip in Guayaquil at the Luis Vernaza Hospital, then traveled two hours to a different clinic for a day of work in Salinas. After that, they took a 9-hour bus ride to see patients at the Hospital San Vincente de Paul in Ibarra.
In addition to our volunteer work with ReSurge, we have established The Dr. Vincent DiGregorio Fellowship Fund to provide financial support to this very worthwhile cause. The Fund honors the memory of former NYPS Group surgeon Dr. Vincent DiGregorio, and sustains his commitment to providing medical care and surgical training to populations in need.
