Leland M. Deane, MD, MBA, FACS, a specialist in body contouring procedures for 25 years, has partnered with Accurate Surgical Scientific Instruments (ASSI)  to design a new body contouring tool for surgeons.  Dr. Deane had been using a simple instrument for the accurate measurement of tissue to be removed or put back on tension. Two years ago, the Northwell Health System asked him to duplicate his instrument. With this request, he sought out the expertise of ASSI, located in Westbury, NY.  ASSI is a maker of high quality instruments for the surgical specialties.

Dr. Deane had been working with ASSI since summer of 2015 towards the completion of a modified forceps tool. In June of 2016, the ASSI Deane Body Contouring Forceps made its debut. Special features of this tool include space at hinge so tissue flaps won’t be crimped, and the ability to easily approximate the amount of excess tissue to be removed. The unique sharp end allows the instrument to be used under tension and it is long enough to be useful for a variety of body contouring procedures, especially ideal for abdominoplasties.

ASSI manufactures the instrument in Germany and markets it world-wide as the ‘Deane Body Contouring Forceps’, in recognition of the surgeon who designed and refined it. Long Island Plastic Surgical Group is proud of Dr. Deane and this innovative accomplishment.
