Dr. Barry K. Douglas of Long Island Plastic Surgical Group discusses injectables’ rise in popularity and highlights the advantages these treatments can provide over surgery.
Long Island, NY – Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, a private practice established in 1948, has seen the evolution of techniques and cosmetic trends across decades. In a recent blog post on the practice’s website, Dr. Barry K. Douglas reflects on the recent findings of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which reports the most popular cosmetic procedures for 2013. The top list of surgical procedures – including breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, and liposuction – was confirmed by the Long Island plastic surgeons. The group also provided some insight to the rising popularity of nonsurgical injectables.
Dr. Douglas writes in his post titled, “Prevent Wrinkles With Natural Looking Results,” that the current aesthetic trend is leaning toward a more natural and less artificial appearance. He also notes, “Patients seeking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and restore lost volume – or to take preventive measures against these common signs of aging – have many non-surgical treatment options available if a full facelift is not considered an option by the patient.” As an added benefit, nonsurgical injectables can provide a fast, easy treatment without the downtime associated with surgical procedures. Even if a person elects to have surgery, Dr. Douglas says patients should keep in mind that injectables – be it BOTOX® Cosmetic or fillers – can be a significant addition for the overall aesthetic outcome.
As a follow-up to his initial blog post, Dr. Douglas authored a piece on the unique advantages that injectables can offer – including certain cosmetic improvements that cannot be achieved through surgical means. Titled, “Are Injectables Or Surgery Right For Me?,” the post notes that in addition to the fact that they are less invasive treatments, injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic can generate “slight muscle changes in the upper face that create a very natural yet subtle eyebrow arch.” These delicate changes are easier to accomplish using an injectable or dermal filler, he says, and the utility of these nonsurgical procedures for any given patient will depend on that patient’s unique aesthetic goals.
Dr. Douglas ends with a final tip about skincare: “In addition to injectable treatments, one of the most important ways to preserve youthful-looking, glowing skin is with a good skin regimen, including treatments such as microdermabrasion and topical peels, as well as diet and exercise.” Regardless of which method of skin rejuvenation the patient chooses, this advice is meant to help keep the practice’s Long Island plastic surgery patients looking their best year round.
